On 17th October 2006, Vicky Buchannan was killed by a lorry whilst cycling to work.

In memory of Vicky and the hope that something positive could come from such a tragedy, 'Vicky’s Water Project' was born. This project was chosen because of Vicky's previous work and studies on water based projects in Africa.

On the day that Vicky was killed she was carrying £10.88 and these were the very first funds paid into Vicky’s Water Project. It was with these foundations that Vicky's family and friends hoped to write a new chapter in her life.

Since then Vicky’s Water Project has surpassed all of its aims and targets by raising £500,000. The money raised so far raised has brought water to the people of Lera Town in Ethiopia, transforming the lives of thousands of people.

With this basic need now met, the people of Lera Town have the opportunity as a community to identify their own new development priorities such as education, healthcare and income generation.

The Moulin Rouge Ball has chosen to support the growing education plans for Lera Town, and with your support we aim to raise enough money to build a brand new classroom block, giving hundreds of children the hope of a brighter, happier future.

Please help us continue Vicky’s journey by supporting the Moulin Rouge ball and in doing so, continue to transform the lives of the people of Lera Town forever.

“Vicky and I attended the team’s first fundraising ball 4 years ago and so I know how much fun Moulin Rouge Ball will be. I am also fortunate enough to have been to Lera Town and know what a massive change to thousands of people’s lives this one night can make.” Adam Chataway (Vicky’s Fiance).
